Shreya

“Where there is righteousness in the heart, there is beauty in the character. When there is beauty in the character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation, there is peace in the world.”

Shreya wholeheartedly believes in these words said by the former Indian President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

Starting from a very young age Shreya had witnessed issues prevalent in the society.  She researched about organizations involved with social work and associated with them to contribute her part. She volunteered for Child Rights and You (CRY) where she taught math and English to underprivileged children. She was also a part of the Social Service League that was involved in taking care of senior citizens at old-age homes.

Shreya graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington with a Masters in Biotechnology, and was offered the position of an R&D Scientist at Sigma-Aldrich. She carried the same sense of social responsibility of community outreach after moving to the United States and got involved with the American Cancer society in celebrating the lives of cancer survivors. Being part of the event leadership team for the past two years has given her immense satisfaction. Shreya has been associated with their annual event, “Relay for Life ®”, where she is currently acting as a Strategic Outreach Co-Lead. Relay For Life ® volunteers plan and organize the Society’s signature team event, raising funds for the American Cancer Society and raising awareness among the communities. Through Sigma-Aldrich, Shreya has been associated with a teaching program called Reading Partners, which supports and aids school students who need help with reading and writing.

As an active volunteer and member of OCA, Shreya participates in a series of events that helped her understand the goals and the mission of the organization. With her strong communication skills and community building strategies, Shreya is excited to further her commitment with additional responsibilities to strengthen the development of OCA-St. Louis chapter and its goals.
